Human Living Library program.

The program has been implemented in various libraries since its original inception or construction in Copenhagen in 2000. The first Australian event was held at the Lismore Library in 2007. The primary aim of the “Human Living Libraries” concept is to engage with any interested or community member by making themselves available to be human borrowed (Human book), for readings - essentially for a short period of time (approx 20- 30 mins). The following links are additional information about the concept.

Our version of ‘Human books’ will focus on a collection of people who might be subjected to stereotyping or prejudice in the local or national community. This primary aim is to get to know your neighbours in the community, and, to dispel negative stereotypes by bringing people together in one on one conversations, and, who may otherwise never have any interaction with people from diverse backgrounds, and is underpinned by the belief that under the right conditions such conversations have the power to undermine the fears we may have of others.

The key four Human books will be from the following: Iran, Syria, China, Australia (First Nation/Indigenous)

Booking information: Early booking is essential and places are limited

Contacts: Manager PCL 9487290. Outreach PCL team 97364523.

(feedback/summary).The event will be during and in conjunction with the 20 year anniversary of Harmony celebrations. This will be during the month of March.
